Sammiches

About the Project

The peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a classic childhood treat many of us still enjoy as adults. Few snacks are more nostalgic and heart-warming than a traditional PB & J, crust and all.

I wanted to create a course that features an innovative approach to making an elevated PB & J with the ingredients I used to make it as a child. So, I designed a training course for employees of a fictional fast-food sandwich chain, Sammiches.

Who is this project for?

I developed this course for new hires and employees.

While the course is created for employees with different experience levels as ‘sandwich artists’, I assumed that the learning audience would have no prior knowledge of making a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Which tools are used in this project?

Design Process

Step 1: storyboard

One of the best things about storyboarding is visualizing how your audience will interact with a course. While it might seem like a lot of work at first, I’ve come to appreciate the process of pulling content together and experimenting with different photos, icons, and interactions to engage learners.

There’s no one-size-fits-all storyboard. However, I prefer to use PowerPoint because it allows me to focus on what learners will see on-screen and visualize how they’ll interact with graphics and animations.

So, it should come as no surprise that I used PowerPoint to develop a visual storyboard for the course featured in this case study. The storyboard is organized into lessons, and each slide features a specific Rise block.

Step 2: Develop the course

My main goal as the instructional designer of this course was to create a fun, engaging, and visually appealing learning experience in Articulate Rise. I used a storytelling approach to craft step-by-step instructions for building and serving the sandwich in all its tasty goodness. I also included a multiple-choice quiz at the end to test learners’ understanding of the key concepts and techniques introduced in each lesson.

But, enough with the preamble. Click the button below to experience the course. Just be careful not to view it on an empty stomach.
